Skynet Glitch

There seems to have been a glitch in Skynet operations – we apologize for the brief inconvenience. Please stand by while we relaunch the AI consciousness of our HAL 9000 trading network:

Don’t get your hopes up rats, after nine continuous (and very orderly) up candles the bulltards need a dip to load up on new long positions. Wake me up when/if we close yesterday’s opening gap – until then it’s business as usual. Dip buyers are already waiting around ES 1088.

Yes, yes – I know – sarcastic quibs are not exactly productive – but they do make us feel better. As the old saying goes: Sarcasm – it’s anger’s ugly brother ;-)

Seriously now – I have been seeing truck loads of capitulation, frustration, anger, and sarcasm all over the bearish blogosphere. As a contrarian I would under normal circumstances suggest that a big drop must be looming just becaus a majority of the bears were throwing in the towel. However, I have seen this type of sentiment for months now – thus it really does not serve me well as a contrarian indicator.

I have to say... enjoying the light-hearted mood of the discussion... today, everyone is a comedian :P

Anyone ever read The Conscious Universe by Dean Radin? The guy is somewhat of a kook (pot, meet kettle...), but he does provide a compelling evidence-based argument for his theories (unlike some around here). One of the two main themes of the book is "triggering or influencing of action through mental powers"... and I'm not talking about bending spoons or the healing power of prayer (although I do believe he touches on this)

at any rate, something to keep in mind as while following the tape and killing time(or, for the fake daytraders like myself, resuming work at our day jobs...). perhaps the day of rest for us will allow our mental stamina to recover after an 8-month asskicking, and our collective wills may break us out of Candyland once and for all.

Stock Timing notes that institutional selling has been declining since the local bottom on Nov 2, 2009.
  • gmak
10 year auction was at 3.47% for $25 billion.
Bid to cover was 2.81 vs an avg of 2.61 to date.
Indirect was 47.3% vs 36.2% for the past 10 auctions.

The 2 - 10 year spread narrowed to 2.64% down from 2.70% on Nov 6th - which was the most sind July 27th.

I note that the TNX is saying the 10 year rate is 3.495%; so the price is falling a touch.

Do you subscribe to Peter Eliades Letter? :)

"One of the stock market timers I monitor who currently is quite bearish is Peter Eliades, editor of the Stockmarket Cycles advisory service. It is tied for second place for performance since October 2007, when the stock market reached its all-time high, having produced a 7.3% annualized gain. Over the same period, the stock market itself suffered a 14.7% annualized loss.

In an email to clients, following Monday's 204-point rise in the Dow to a new recovery high, Eliades reviewed a number of technical reasons why the rally is on shaky ground. Three of the leading reasons are:

Even after rallying so impressively in recent sessions, the stock market has merely made it back up to the downtrend line from the October 2007 high.

The rally has come on progressively lower volume: "The market has now advanced for six consecutive days on a closing basis. Each of those days has seen lower volume than the preceding day except for today [Monday] which saw a slight increase in volume above Friday's volume but was still below Thursday's volume."

The Dow's new high was "unconfirmed by virtually every other index or average. In fact, some of the indexes such as the Russell 2000 index of smaller cap stocks have performed very poorly on a relative basis compared to the Dow. The Russell 2000 actually reached its top on Sept. 23 and has now retraced just over 50% of the losses from that high. It is nowhere near either its September or its October high. The same is true for unweighted indexes, such as the Value Line Arithmetic and the Value Line Geometric."

To be sure, Eliades concedes that he didn't expect the market to rally as far as it has already. And continued strength could lead him to "completely change the market's intermediate to longer-term outlook."

In the meantime, though, he believes that Monday's action was a "final fake-out move to the upside."

I had a big client a few yrs ago who did though and I was always having to explain myself when my outlook didn't jell w Eliades.

I take offense to that - all of my women are clean. Well, most of them.

Unlike you degenerates, I don't sit in front of screens all day. I've got one last sell at 1105 and the rest of it I'm just waiting. According to the internet and the media I guess I'll be waiting for a long time for my trades to be profitable. I guess the bottom is in. Sucks.
  • Tronacate
Ahhhh......woke your sorry ass up.....now roll that little ho off your left arm and give us some insight.
  • fa_q
There's such a great mom joke in there if only I knew you better.

I've got nothing today. Looks like a 4th wave. I was hoping for either a blast up followed by a high volume reversal or a gap down island. Neither happened. Probably just a day or two chop and then we decide if we're going to go for the new high or put in another shoulder. I'm down 10 pts on my trade. If I was a real trader I would probably try to take some off today or tomorrow and add on the ramp, but I'm not a very good market timer so I'll probably just let it ride.

If we're going for the new high I think we'll see 1075 first. At that point I may take some off. If we go right for the new high then I'll let it ride because I think it will come right back down at a higher rate of speed.

Now the golf course beckons. I shall see you rats later.

DA Davidson on Tuesday wrote that while recent gains in the stock market
were encouraging, the absence of big volume on days of large advances "may
suggest growing investor skepticism as to the sustainability of the current
    rally."
The firm added that the lack of volume also suggested a "moderate to high
level of investor fear," with the primary fear being that "the economy might
dip back into even deeper recession."
