Could We be Replaced?

by MoleSeptember 24, 2009

Anna here gang,

I have first to say I hope yesterday wasn’t a bear trap! I just don’t trust the bulls, not to pull a fast one. Now that being said todays RIMM’s earnings will be either very bullish for the /NQ or bearish.

Update It appears we have a definite trend reversal (FINALLY) I have gone bearish on RIMM took early profits on bulls spread (up 70%) and feel even if they do post better than espected numbers the price is already in the stock price.Good day trading you Evil and adorable RATS. :-)

Now being I had some not so good sushi yesterday and am feeling quite terrrible, I am posting a article by ReddraggonLeo that is absolutely adorable and fun! Enjoy

Is over for Anna and Keirsten? Many have stated that it’s a lot nicer now since Evil Mole is gone. This could be bad for Mole’s reputation. Let’s face it… with Mole around, if you get out of line, he’ll send over some goons to kick your ass.

With Anna and Keirsten, you will be put in “time-out”, and given a piece of caulk to write “I will be a nice poster” a thousand times on the blackboard. I believe that this is not the reputation that Mole wants to portray to his evil rats. He’s more into “Bitch-Slapping” you silly!

It’s not looking good for the girls, as I also caught them in this picture! Yes, that’s Anna, Keirsten, and Douala… with a Bull!

Traders! Mole is really going to be upset now. Is it over for the ladies at Evil? Will they be replaced by new trader babes (strippers probably… knowing Mole)? Inquiring minds want to know!

SPECIAL UPDATE,  A SWAN DIVE IS NOW ENSUING!!!! WHEEEEE

    I found this very timely advice from Bill Cara. It is long but I wanted to make sure everyone got a chance to see it and not just glance over a posted link.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    “CTA trader’s conference call notes:
    The price action Wednesday was a shot across the bow. Whether it becomes significant remains to be seen; after an extended multi month upward march, US equities finally succumbed to inflated expectations.
    • An index (or a stock) setting a quarterly high before reversing to close lower on the day is sending a message; with buyers tapped out, sellers are regaining the upper hand.
    • When many large capital markets-gold (GLD –0.82%), the US dollar (DXY +0.45%), S&P 500 (SPX –1.01%), and crude oil (USO -4.98%)-simultaneously are extended in price, odds for a meaningful reversal are greatest.
    • While the background technical picture has been deteriorating, the KISS trend line method (keep it simple stupid) has kept us from aggressively moving to the dark (short) side. Once the uptrend line (successively higher swing lows) has been broken, momentum is waning, and/or upside targets met, shorts can be considered.
    • The March low (666) x 1.618=1077 is fairly close to the intra-day high on the day. The 50% retracement of the bear market (1576 to 666) is 1121. This area should contain this rally even if the move only represents an initial leg up in a larger, more complex bull market.
    • An S&P close below 1050 and then 1028 will be bearish.
    • If a new short (or intermediate) down trend has begun, the quality of the next rally will tell us a lot about the condition of the equity market. Remember, it is the second leg down (wave 3 in Elliott Wave terms) that causes the most damage. Violating the low of the first downswing is time for aggressive shorting; not only has a prior swing low been taken out, but just as importantly, a tight stop can be placed just above the swing high of the bull move. Low risk, high probability of success.
    • Now is the time to spend time reviewing charts on all timeframes. The hourly chart will break down before the daily and weekly, giving day traders a heads-up on a potential change in trend. The more time spent studying data outside market hours, the greater your realized profits will be during the trading day.
    • 20 years ago (1989) was the October mini crash, a move coming out of nowhere, brought on by the unraveling of the UAL buyout. 100 years ago (5 twenty year cycles) was the Black Friday crash in October 1929. Maybe history will rhyme rather than repeat?
    • Pay close attention to expansions in daily trading ranges, as it portends a change in trend, as the struggle for control between Bulls and Bears heats up. Check out the dramatic increase in intra-day volatility in September 1987, an ominous harbinger of future trouble that led to Black Monday, October 19 that year.
    • Our senses may have been recently dulled by lethargy, but now is the time to refocus. The stakes have never been higher.
    Take the time to make a difference in some one’s life. While we all strive to profit in the capital markets, the big payout in life is mentoring people who need help.
    Isn’t that why we are all here?
    Have a great day.”
    [Bill Cara]
    In keeping with the above post (the first part unfortunately), I just want to remind everyone about the ES pivot at 1063.33 – and how we're fighting a pre-market battle there now. SELL setup complete on the ES 10 minute.
    Anna and Keirsten,
    I'm encouraged (as a bear) that even with the “better than expected” jobs number the SPY is up just under .5%.
    Existing home sales up next.
    Yes, I am keeping a tight eye on today's price action GMak, one good thing I did last night was put on long EUR/usd 4 lots when the Eur was about at it's low's 1.4680 I think. But irregardless, it worked out quite nicely, probably due to the good GDP of Germany 😉
  • http://www.evilspeculator.com/annamall annamall
    Hey SnP yes, watching carefully :)
    So FOMC surprised by annoucing the mortagage backed securitues buyback phase-out this month, instead of waiting until tne November meeting. That means the banks have got to get ready to go it alone – making the Existing Home Sales report today more important than usual.
    I'm thinking now I will stay in Philadelphia ANOTHER day (Saturday) to catch a session on the financial sector – one I don't really follow closely but probably should more than I do.
    Art Cashin's morning report:
    A Classic Reversal? – Yesterday’s whipsaw had many aspects of a classic reversal pattern. Our good friend and trading veteran, Dennis Gartman took note of the “near textbook reversal” in his letter this morning. Dennis noted that the rally portion made multi-month highs after taking out Tuesday’s highs. The subsequent reversal then took out Tuesday’s lows on higher volume. Whether Wednesday’s reversal was a major turning point will only be assessed by the action of the next several days. The bulls need to rally above yesterday’s highs to regain control. They also will try to hold above an important support level of 1055/1058 in the S&P.
    Two possible scenarios that could hurt the bulls are being discussed. One would be for the markets to open better today and then close down. Another would be for stocks to “gap down” and stay there.
    Traders will watch the next seven trading days very carefully.
    Which Came First – The Chicken Or The Egg? – For months now, we have noted the nearly tick by tick inverse relationship of the dollar to assets like stocks, oil and commodities. Now that relationship is a topic on nearly every financial page.
    Since the movements (reactions) are virtually instantaneous and simultaneous some folks are debating who’s moving whom. A few are contending that the stock market is moving the dollar. The stock market is far smaller than the Treasury bond market, which in turn is far smaller than dollar trading. Classic trading folklore holds that dominant markets influence smaller ones, since it takes far more buying (selling) power to move such giant trading forums. To us it is clear that the dollar is calling the tune.
  • PeterK80
    I appreciate it…
    Are there any bad news for bulls not to buy?
    Here is a little tidbit to brighten or darken your day before the open. I got this from a publication I get called “derivatives week”. This one is dated Sep 14. You can file this under “Too bad, so sad.”
    It seems that hedge funds lost millions of dollars the week before betting that the EUR would stay in the range 1.39 – 1.44. This happened on Tuesday Sep 8 – if anyone wants to check up on volatility and how it played out.
    Unfortunately, the beneficiaries were the writers of these double no-touch options – the investment banks. (boo hissss). Traders said that nearly everyinvestment bank in Europe had been selling these DNT options on the EUR due to the demand from hedge funds. DNTs give investors a payout at expiry so long as spot does not cross two pre-determined barriers.
    SPX TD range projection
    High: 1070.51; Tolerance = 1064.54
    Low: 1050.75; Tolerance = 1060.58
    We opened within the range. The LOD remains above its Tolerance, but the HOD exceeds its tolerance (1064.54)
    The close is expected to be within the range unless the HOD breaks the Range high (1070).
    Things may change depending on if the price gets below the tolerance low.
  • Trader_Steve
    Did I not say yesterday that the dollar was saying “bring on the news”?
    Not that I'm a Barton Biggs fan, but in his book, “War, Wealth, and Wisdom” the Dow began to make massive moves up when we won major battles….days before the battles occurred! Then the news hit and they went further. The charts are uncanny.
    If anyone doesn't know about the Princeton Eggs that are random number generators, they went nuts 20-30 minutes before the first plane hit the forst tower. A physicist I know said theoretical physicists believe that every atom in the universe might be affected by all others…spooky!
    real capitulation … Big spike on the VIX , and Put buying at extremes,, did not happen,,,, in normal market bottoms,,, had me second guessing the March 6 low….i sold early ,,, and went short early as well….
    Good to see existing home sales FALL at the end of the peak selling season WITH the 8k rebate from the government ending. Even the biggest of liars (NAR) could not come up with a positive number. This house of cards is going to fall.
  • dullmind
    Yes I did. If I am reading it correctly, you expect a bounce at 1048 (which we have hit as I
    write this, then we ride the blue trend line back up to 1060? I know my self, don’t think
    I could make it through a 500 page EW book so that I would better know how to read them.
    If not 1060, how high do you think we could bounce? Mole’s last chart shows us potentially
    bouncing back up to 1098. Is that your thinking also?
    Damn, yesterday morning I posted that I was shorting 4 stocks and had 3 out of four winners. Picked up 4 points on AAPL, 6 points on GOOG and a whopping 20 points on BIDU. My fourth one GS finally went positive at 1.5 points. .. Closing most of them out as I'm not sure if it'll bounce around here. I just might be done for the day as thats a great 2 day run. .
  • http://chaugner.blogspot.com chaugner
    yeap I know …. its hard to resist though – finally some signs of the market moving in my direction and my rules tell me I cannot add more shorts here. Let me figure out how I can adjust the rule to add more hah (just kidding … there are many points to be had for us on the downside if this is for real)
  • CorporalCarrot
    Haven't the last few days been extremely interesting in terms of the posts that preceded them on trader mentality, exhaustion and fatigue?
    Its been an object lesson to me. Following folks for quite some time, trying to constantly scalp the market, while fighting their own cognitive dissonance?
    All the while the market rises, against all logic, and you keep standing in the way trying to pick a top, getting burned while at the same time not wanting to be out in case you miss that fall you know in your heart of hearts could happen at any time?
    I don't pretend to have any special skill in trading. I normally can't keep my emotions out of it and prefer to trade in a very simplistic style.
    I normally have an underlying fundamental thesis, work out how ridiculous I think the market can get, and then my trading capital determines the point at which I get involved and I don't get involved before then. I then commit knowing full well the position can go against me but also knowing how far I can go because I have already determined my risk tolerance. I try not to watch the screens every minute since it just raises the heart rate.
    And invariably when something happens, I miss it! Last night, I was at the gym, and had left overhead orders to short more dow at 9,875 and 9,900. I had no particular reasons for picking these levels, they just seemed nice at the time. I was about to go into a spinning class when the FOMC announcement, and the depressingly familiar initial response to it came. I fully expected to come out 45 minutes later, seriously underwater, with DOW caressing 10k, and had to do a double take when I saw what had happened. Oh glorious day!!!
    If that was a top, and I sincerely hope it was, that was the flukiest, luckiest, most non-scientifically chosen, best trade of my life. And I was getting fit at the time :)
  • http://www.evilspeculator.com/annamall annamall
    Morning Croozer, i would like more volume, but I think it will come as the day goes on :)
  • Keirsten
    It’s a thing of beauty, isn’t it Joe? 😀
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com Anna
    tomorrow if ok, today I have to go downtown in a while :(
  • AudioTactics
    Wow, I'm missing all of this move…
    I covered my SPY shorts way to early yesterday and even exited my USD longs before the FOMC announcement.
    This morning in pre-market, if I was paying closer attention, I would have noticed that SPY was unable to break up into the previous 2 day's range despite the bullish jobless claims number. Then breaking below yesterday's range was yet another sell signal. I was hoping for a retracement on the housing numbers but we got a bearish number instead.
    I guess you live and you learn and today was just not meant to be for me…
    My guess is that SPY is headed down to the 104.00 area but maybe not directly although I don't see much support until then.
  • Trader_Steve
    There may be no volume now, but coinsider the converse….it's dropping in a vacuum which means the buyers are uneasy OR already loaded to the gills. I hope the latter as that's what will bring the selling in as we drop lower. I don't want to see big volume yet as it can cease.
    Steve
  • Trader_Steve
    Thanks for the chart. I don’t know how to do that yet and that is exactly what I had looked at and stated about 20-30 minutes ago when I said 1040 is as critcial a spot as we shall see here and a breach of that should start institutions selling.
  • reddragonleo
    Wow, if it keeps going like this it might hit 1040 today!
  • http://www.bostonwealth.net katzo7
    I am concerned this is just a gap fill, look at 15 minute UUP. After that, we will see where we go.
    Meh.. you're cleared the gap fill though… just looking at volume on it again, looks pretty good here.
    Silver really getting pounded here. That monthly chart looks U G L Y. That silver/gold ratio is looking like it will be a (I wrote 'a') nail in the coffin for the 'risk' trade if we can maintain these levels.
  • http://www.evilspeculator.com/annamall annamall
    I think it just might! :)
  • Keirsten
    Yes, Dollar, that's what I said- so next target would be the 20 EMA above like a magnet, hopefully. Looking good, isn't it? 😀
  • http://www.evilspeculator.com/annamall annamall
    Might get a small bounce here, will just add more puts! :)
  • Trader_Steve
    I just threw up a 15 minute as the time frame is irrelevant s you just neeed the lows. But I just noticed that we are far away from that trendline on SPY v SPX testing it. SPY comes in at 103.80.
    There was a mention of some adjustment (dividends?) one day and I wonder if that’s what has the two charts off by that much. I tend to go with SPY as SPX is not as reflective of what traders are doing, IMO.
    Steve
  • Trader_Steve
    Might be a good time for anyone who did not see Karl Denninger's commentary on monetary collapse to spend 7 minutes.
    I had a PhD in economics view this and it scared the crap out of him as he really doesn't look this far out (10-20 yrs). Denninger's soultion is pray for very bad times NOW because we will pray for survival 10 years from now.
    I think they will stick to the dollar, if they want any currency, all this talk of replacing the dollar is hoooey, and they'll buy Treasuries and Gold
    Everyone appears to be long on rimm going into their earnings and expect huge numbers. I believe rimm will report good numbers, however, there are way too many people on one side and i expect it to sell-off even with good numbers.
  • Bart7
    interesting comments on zerohedge last night. I was aware of the gold move in the 30's, but what if it was just a result of FDR's tinkering with the gold price? I doubt they pull this exact same game again, confiscate and then revalue at what, $1500?
  • http://www.evilspeculator.com/annamall annamall
    I unloaded them yesterday morning, and bought puts, when Alpha put up his wonderful chart. :)
    Big article on ammo and the bullets (shortages) to make them yesterday.
    Denninger's piece reads like ammo and whiskey will be the new currency!
    The problem, besides our politicians, is that we don't teach history or economics anymore so everyone takes American prosperity for granted. Spain did the same thing centuries ago and they have never climbed back to anywhere near their power.
    I had a cop tell me this weekend that I would be astounded as to how dumb some of these kids ages 16-18 that he arrests are. Her said it's as if they not only never went to school, but went to one to make them more stupid than they would have been had they just been left alone their entire life.
    When the Fed is hell bent on devaluing the dollar (because they think this will get them out of this economic mess), they should have asked BOJ how it worked out for them in the 90s. Keep rates at zero and adopt an official policy of cheapening your currency and you give a green light to the currency specs to short your currency against all else. The unwinds of those trades is spectacular. Mervyn King is on the same path to destroy the Sterling. Has never worked, will never work.
    There is a point to my ranting. People are piling into dollars as an unwind of these trades because everyone is short dollars. we saw that last year. but they never learn (dont fight the fed yada yada).
  • Trader_Steve
    I think a lot depends on the closing price tomorrow. Should it be below 1035 tomorrow I expect a new event or an overseas mkt decline to start us off badly as that will be one ugly candle.
    The only count I have here is that there exists the chance that this is wave A of a triangle. Nothing else corrective can exist, IMO, that would do this. If we toss that aside, that top is locked in.
    Steve
    http://screencast.com/t/4xFdvdvRYE
    this would correlate to a minute wave one for the $SPX on completion
    http://screencast.com/t/eeJULDvOr
  • Trader_Steve
    Just a heads up here….be VERY careful about buying any commodities if a serious mkt decline begins. There's no question that the specs are long metals. In a stock mkt dsaster the margin calls will liquidate everything. On Oct 20th, 1987 the silver mkt was trading above $8 in London at 8:20 AM. When they opened ay 8:25 in NY silver traded at $6.80 as the liquidation was as large as was ever seen in that pit. Buying into that is what took nerve, but a few people I know made fortunes. I don't recall the exact price of gold at the time.
  • Scoops
    Here's a good one on how comfortable the bulls have gotten.
    “FX COLUMN-Sterling bears comfortable but eye exit strategy”
  • http://www.evilspeculator.com/annamall annamall
    to me this morning's price action was the key. With the better than expected housing data, and the tape couldn't hold green :)
  • AudioTactics
    I think you meant the better than expected jobless claims but yeah I knew exactly what you meant…
    I noticed the same thing and even commented that the tone of the market was different than usual after the claims number was released.
    I was working an 106.82 offer in SPY hoping to sell near the top of the overnight range but we never got back up there after the housing number. I should have been more flexible and just sold into the weakness.
    But, for whatever reason, I’ve always had trouble selling into a weak market (or buying into a strong market) despite an obvious signal/trend. However, I really need to work on this as it’s really holding back my trading…
  • Bart7
    I thought the housing data was worse than expected…
    On my SPX volume chart, the largest histogram is the 1052-1052.49 level. Market preference is for just above that at 1052.50 – 1052.99;
    Range limits are 1050.50 below and 1061.50 above. big volume gap from 1056 up to 1061.50 suggesting a lot of overhead resistance.
  • Tronacate
    Yes…….
  • Keirsten
    I know- they were asking me how to do it. LOL
  • harveydent
    can you elaborate wave 3 please? thanks
    Dive dive dive if SPX coses a bar below 1049.25, since we're at the start of a falling BUY setup. When we went below earlier, we were at the end of a BUY setup. SPX VWAP is just above 1055. I see quite a bit of support at SPX=1040 (ES = 1035ish)
    Morning all. Have been busy over the last couple of days – and shaking off a cold that does not want to go away.
    Anyhow, was looking at the last week or so as a fractal of the June 4 thru 12 SPX – which would indicate around 12-ish points down today from previous close. I have to go to a lunch meeting and will probably close my SPY 107 puts here and take a look again later day when I get back.
  • Douala
    FWIW
    ~~~~~~~~~
    The Fed kept short-term interest rates unchanged Wednesday, and stocks moved once the announcement was over, up, then down. The decline looks to us to be wave c-down of (D) down. While we cannot rule out (B) has topped, we do not think that is the case, for several reasons. First, upside targets from Bullish Head & Shoulders bottom patterns we have been tracking in the S&P 500 and Industrials have not been reached, in fact prices haven't even entered the ballpark of those upside targets. Also, the Elliott Wave count just doesn't look complete to us. The biggest problem with (B) topping here is that we do not have a Hindenburg Omen yet, and there has not been a stock market plunge over the past 25 years without one. That said, it is not unusual for sharp selloff days to occur sporadically before a major top arrives, and Wednesday's sharp sell-off could be an early warning that (B) up is approaching, is within sight, perhaps weeks rather than months away. Wednesday was not a 90 percent down day, which supports our (D) down count. After (D) down, (E) up should wrap things up for this rally from March 2009. If (C ) down is weeks away, then we should see a Hindenburg Omen either just before (B) tops, or just after (C ) down starts. Corrective moves often generate sideways signals in our key trend-finder indicators, and we got a sideways signal in our blue chip key trend-finder indicators Wednesday, supporting wave (D) down is underway.

    Oil lost some important support area…would not be surprised to see 62 in short order.

    I see possible inverse H&S in some charts too but crayon calculations say 9625 area on the Dow more likely target…

  • Iguanadon

    Sounds so similar to March when so many were saying that 666 didn't look quite like the bottom, the wave structures needed one more small leg down to complete… etc, etc… just makes you wonder if we're repeating the same expectations, but this time on the flip side. Time will tell of course.

    EUR looks like it's getting overextended to the downside. conditions are setting up for a run up – but we're just below the pivot at 1.4694 – so I don't know where EUR can go – but given the TD indicators, if it goes it will be steady and strong up.

    Nah. I try to stay away from RIMM. Rimm and Palm always seem to get me. . . I think they will beat numbers, but I don't know how that tied in with the rest of the market will react. That along with the OpEx being quite a ways off doesn't afford you as much of a VIX crush that you can usually bank on. AND, the market going down might actually hinder you if you're playing the crush as VIX might be rising (like today) making options more valuable on a counter move. . .

    MARKET MANIPULATION! Someone woke up!

    http://www.zerohedge.com/article/moonraker-fund

    In part:
    What the blogosphere has been claiming for months is starting to make its way into the institutional realm. In a brazen press release by Moonraker Fund Management, caught by Tracy Alloway at FT Alphaville, the fund is alleging that the equity-rally has been orchestrated by banks, who using bailout capital and free liquidity from the Federal Reserve, have reallocated capital to purchase equities in the open market, which of course explains a lot of the inexplicable market phenomena witnessed recently. Including why the market does not reflect the underlying economic reality and is merely a function of burgeoning liquidity, and represents an impairment of broad fiduciary interests stemming from an opaque agenda which remains hidden courtesy of the Bank-Fed duo.

    Excerpts from the Moonraker press release:

    September 24, 2009 – Moonraker Fund Management, the independent investment boutique, is concerned that banks may have been using their bailout money to buy equities, helping to fuel a rally that is vulnerable to a major correction if they consequently sell in thinly traded markets.

    OK this non technical but the way I see it, the Fed and the Treasury went into a bar and fed drinks to the stock market until it was plastered. They held it up by each arm and led him outside. Yesterday and today the Fed said: I'm going to start to let go a litttle of one arm and see if he can walk by himself. It's looking pretty wobbly.

    But the ones I know already feel poor. Find me one person not worth $2 million+ over 50 who is not very concerned. EVERYONE I speak to is even if they have a net worth of $1 million. They fear SS will be gone/reduced and Medicare will be gone.

    This is going to be like a townhall meeting I attended at age 40. Our property taxes had gone from $4K to $10K in 8 years. Some yuppie said to a couple in their 60s that the price what was an upper midddle class pays and if they can't afford it they should move out.

    The mkt has nothing to do with the economy. It has been put here to bail out the oligarchs.

    Here…this is really mandatory reading from the 2007-2008 IMF president who is telling us in May in The Atlantic Monthly to STOP as what we are doing is what crumbling third world nations do and it always ends badly.

    If you read one article this week, read this one.

    THE QUIET COUP
    http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200905/imf-advice

    The crash has laid bare many unpleasant truths about the United States. One of the most alarming, says a former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, is that the finance industry has effectively captured our government—a state of affairs that more typically describes emerging markets, and is at the center of many emerging-market crises. If the IMF’s staff could speak freely about the U.S., it would tell us what it tells all countries in this situation: recovery will fail unless we break the financial oligarchy that is blocking essential reform. And if we are to prevent a true depression, we’re running out of time.

    THANK GOD the Blarney Stoneys are still there.

    I remember being called by a customer once who said “meet me at the Blarney Stone” and I asked “WHICH ONE?”…I didn't know Mr. Gallagher (I'm Irish…we drink…or I used to much moreso than now) had a favorite one on his block. Lower Manhattan was a great place to go out drinking untill about 1995. Then suddenly you didn't hear that much English and the sidewalks had barkers and trinkets for sale.

    A friend of mine hadn't been in Manhattan, where he worked for years, in 20 years until this summer and he asked me “What the F**K happened?”

    But it's good to know the Blarney Stones are still in business!

    Steve

    P.S. I got in a cab around 1990 and a big Italian guy was driving. He had a sign up that read, “Yes, I am an American cab driver. Please tell me your destination, sit back, and don't talk to me because I don't care.”

  • Douala

    FWIW
    ~~~~~~~~~
    The Fed kept short-term interest rates unchanged Wednesday, and stocks moved once the announcement was over, up, then down. The decline looks to us to be wave c-down of (D) down. While we cannot rule out (B) has topped, we do not think that is the case, for several reasons. First, upside targets from Bullish Head & Shoulders bottom patterns we have been tracking in the S&P 500 and Industrials have not been reached, in fact prices haven't even entered the ballpark of those upside targets. Also, the Elliott Wave count just doesn't look complete to us. The biggest problem with (B) topping here is that we do not have a Hindenburg Omen yet, and there has not been a stock market plunge over the past 25 years without one. That said, it is not unusual for sharp selloff days to occur sporadically before a major top arrives, and Wednesday's sharp sell-off could be an early warning that (B) up is approaching, is within sight, perhaps weeks rather than months away. Wednesday was not a 90 percent down day, which supports our (D) down count. After (D) down, (E) up should wrap things up for this rally from March 2009. If (C ) down is weeks away, then we should see a Hindenburg Omen either just before (B) tops, or just after (C ) down starts. Corrective moves often generate sideways signals in our key trend-finder indicators, and we got a sideways signal in our blue chip key trend-finder indicators Wednesday, supporting wave (D) down is underway.
    MARKET MANIPULATION! Someone woke up!
    http://www.zerohedge.com/article/moonraker-fund
    In part:
    What the blogosphere has been claiming for months is starting to make its way into the institutional realm. In a brazen press release by Moonraker Fund Management, caught by Tracy Alloway at FT Alphaville, the fund is alleging that the equity-rally has been orchestrated by banks, who using bailout capital and free liquidity from the Federal Reserve, have reallocated capital to purchase equities in the open market, which of course explains a lot of the inexplicable market phenomena witnessed recently. Including why the market does not reflect the underlying economic reality and is merely a function of burgeoning liquidity, and represents an impairment of broad fiduciary interests stemming from an opaque agenda which remains hidden courtesy of the Bank-Fed duo.
    Excerpts from the Moonraker press release:
    September 24, 2009 – Moonraker Fund Management, the independent investment boutique, is concerned that banks may have been using their bailout money to buy equities, helping to fuel a rally that is vulnerable to a major correction if they consequently sell in thinly traded markets.
    Two paths diverged in the woods and unfortunately I prefer the more bullish one for now. Two scenarios left, but i favor this move down as c of wave 4
    I like the way you say “I had to”. Did the devil make you do it?
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    Please down further Alpha, although I took off 1/3 reading your post. :)
  • Road_Kill
    Can someone please tell me where the market is going next so I can trade accordingly.
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    No Alpha! LOL
  • http://alphahorn.blogspot.com/ alphahorn
    this is just wave iv there should be one more small one down before we head up
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    thanks you have been on fire! great job alpha!
  • CorporalCarrot
    Just a word of caution for myself as much as anything else. While the last two days have been great, any longer term view of dow, s&p or ndx shows this as still within the overall uptrend, so lets all try to keep sane here lest disappointment be just around the corner.
    I'm bringing stops in everywhere.
  • dullmind
    Just looked at your chart, Alpha, I agree with Anna, you have been really on target for
    months now. How high do you think we will retrace before heading down again?
  • flyboy08
    Anna..You still calling $202 on AAPL?
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    alpha what are your thoughts on RIMM I am a heavy loaded position short 😉
  • Road_Kill
    anna you trade like you have ADD
  • flyboy08
    So you agree with Daneric that it topped?
  • dullmind
    For sideways or topping/bottoming markets thats a good thing. If nothing else it preserves
    capital.
    Yes for now. :)
    I think the EUR is going to run a bit up to the bollinger and price exhaustion at 1.4710ish; we're above the pivot now but still below the middle bollinger at 1.4699
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    LOL ;)))
  • Bearcat_Tom
    Alpha,
    I have the exact same count as you as well. I still have a target of 1120ish
  • dollar
    OK this non technical but the way I see it, the Fed and the Treasury went into a bar and fed drinks to the stock market until it was plastered. They held it up by each arm and led him outside. Yesterday and today the Fed said: I'm going to start to let go a litttle of one arm and see if he can walk by himself. It's looking pretty wobbly.
  • Tronacate
    Cocoa broke hard lower out of an ascending wedge……short a couple contracts.
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    I have that after we get some of this retracement, but i got some nasty comments on it. I have 1122-23
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    You were right on about that ! Great job Troncate :)
    I guarantee it was a Blarney Stone in lower Manhattan.
    Now, having not been in lower Manhattan in over 10 years, are they till open, or have the pakistinis selling electronics and trinkets closed them all up? (not kidding)
    Steve
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    Aloha we did it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
  • Joe8888
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    Please more down Joe!
  • flyboy08
    There are many comments about the retracement from 1040-980? Sure would be nice to close that gap some.
    anyone have a 'GOOD” finger on this?
  • Tronacate
    Definitely overstating the facts there girl…..I just get lucky every once in awhile
  • Trader_Steve
    Yeah…I think it's pretty clear here….FOR ONCE!
    If we take out 1039.xx it invalidates a few things and should be a put your hands in yoiur pocket for months sale.
    Anyone remember that the stats on a down January were something like 82% of a down year?
    Steve
  • flyboy08
    LOL…there is a BS on almost every block in NYC:-)
  • Joe8888
    we never did hit the 20 ma ,,, on the intraday 10 min chart of the SPY,,,,, ( no over night data ) we always hit
    the 20 MA ,, at least once,, a day,,,,,, so a move to the 20 will happen,,,, but is it gonna happen ,here,,,or in a few hours,,,,,,thats the question,,,,,,,, as of now ,,, we still have a possible higher low,,,,,,,,,short term move ,,maybe….
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    I am staying long the Dollar and will add on dips :)
  • http://www.hotoptionbabe.com annamall
    You have been on fire too Joe, I listen to you :)
  • Joe8888
    105.50 ish is where my 20 ma,,is @ right now……moving lower , every 10 minutes.. of course….
  • http://snpmonster.blogspot.com/ SnPMonster
    Yup, the 200 EMA on 60 minute chart is still far away…..Of course if looking at the daily chart, we still have 20 EMA to support.
    Do you find the 60 minute chart or 30 minute more reliable…?
  • Hanuman
    Love GE and STLD charts. I am short (shares) in both.
  • Trader_Steve
    But the ones I know already feel poor. Find me one person not worth $2 million+ over 50 who is not very concerned. EVERYONE I speak to is even if they have a net worth of $1 million. They fear SS will be gone/reduced and Medicare will be gone.
    This is going to be like a townhall meeting I attended at age 40. Our property taxes had gone from $4K to $10K in 8 years. Some yuppie said to a couple in their 60s that the price what was an upper midddle class pays and if they can't afford it they should move out.
    The mkt has nothing to do with the economy. It has been put here to bail out the oligarchs.
    Here…this is really mandatory reading from the 2007-2008 IMF president who is telling us in May in The Atlantic Monthly to STOP as what we are doing is what crumbling third world nations do and it always ends badly.
    If you read one article this week, read this one.
    THE QUIET COUP
    http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200905/imf-advice
    The crash has laid bare many unpleasant truths about the United States. One of the most alarming, says a former chief economist of the International Monetary Fund, is that the finance industry has effectively captured our government—a state of affairs that more typically describes emerging markets, and is at the center of many emerging-market crises. If the IMF’s staff could speak freely about the U.S., it would tell us what it tells all countries in this situation: recovery will fail unless we break the financial oligarchy that is blocking essential reform. And if we are to prevent a true depression, we’re running out of time.
  • Joe8888
    yes i use the 60 min as well,,, i have a rising trendline at the 200 ma on the 60 min,,, and that 200 ma
    is at 618% retrace range,,,,,, from the chart i did this morning,,,, we should hit that imo
    http://www.screencast.com/users/chartwiz/folder
  • http://snpmonster.blogspot.com/ SnPMonster
    Thanks Joe, I was just looking at 2nd – 4th Sept….something similar could map out…just a guess
  • Joe8888
    MA's on all different time frames work well,,,look at the 5 min ,, we are riding the 20 ma down ,,here…..it's resistance ,,SPY
  • http://snpmonster.blogspot.com/ SnPMonster
    lol….hahaha….that looks weird. Below that we have pivot R2…which is psychologically a no short entry….
  • Tronacate
    Right on the money…….I enjoy reading about the French revolution where the elites refused to help with the government deficit……they lost their heads over the issue of wealth disparity. Right now our Gini coefficient ranks right with Mexico……not good
  • Trader_Steve
    THANK GOD the Blarney Stoneys are still there.
    I remember being called by a customer once who said “meet me at the Blarney Stone” and I asked “WHICH ONE?”…I didn't know Mr. Gallagher (I'm Irish…we drink…or I used to much moreso than now) had a favorite one on his block. Lower Manhattan was a great place to go out drinking untill about 1995. Then suddenly you didn't hear that much English and the sidewalks had barkers and trinkets for sale.
    A friend of mine hadn't been in Manhattan, where he worked for years, in 20 years until this summer and he asked me “What the F**K happened?”
    But it's good to know the Blarney Stones are still in business!
    Steve
    P.S. I got in a cab around 1990 and a big Italian guy was driving. He had a sign up that read, “Yes, I am an American cab driver. Please tell me your destination, sit back, and don't talk to me because I don't care.”
  • Tronacate
    I think long dollar is a good play. Looks like a long term bottom to me.
    Looks like Bears on life support. But as long as lower closes, the count goes on.
    Note: 5 just completed, so ok, so far… want the 9 bar complete for momo mode, then next 13 goes into trend mode.
    alpha, with all due respect I agree more with david dt, DROP TO 980-900'S EXPANDING TRIANGLE, 1 done, 2 done, 4 to 980 or below, then your top of 1111, then (because this is a replica of the larger animal) drop to 800, then 1222 or beyond
