Liebe Ist Fรผr Alle Da!

by The MoleOctober 21, 2009

The timing could NOT be any better for this – we are close to rolling over (or are already in the process of doing so) and Rammstein just released their new album. So, you rats know what to do ๐Ÿ™‚

Here’s a little taste:

BTW, the album was released yesterday or today on iTunes. So, if today actually winds up being the top of P2 then fucking Rammstein called the market and single handedly turned the tape around for us bears. There you go rats, if you want a job well done leave it up to the damn Germans ๐Ÿ˜‰

Enjoy!

Mole
P.S.: The title means ‘Love Is For Everyone’.

12:09am EDT: From ‘Rammlied’ (posted above):

Wer wartet mit Besonnenheit
Der wirt belohnt zur rechten Zeit
Nun das Warten hat ein Ende
Leit euer Ohr einer Legende

He who is prudent and can wait
Will be rewarded when the time is right
Now your wait has come to an end
Lend your ear (attention) to a legend

Fuck TA – I’m trading Rammstein only going forward.

Sorry mate – but you might want to actually listen to Rammstein before you cast a vote. It's one of the most creative and provocative metal bands on the planet right now.

    BTW, Peter Jones loves them.

  • raised_by_wolves

    I'm pouring over these charts.

Although I am positioned short, very short, my intuition says there's a strong possibility that we don't roll over just yet. I'm going to THINK this through and hopefully provide a WHY in my next comment. (Give me some time).

  • The_Grim_Reaper

Maybe I'm delusional, but call me “skeptical” that the catalyst for P3 is a second-rate bank analyst's commentary. A pullback, sure, that's a possibility, but the end? I'm not so sure.

The major trendline for the entire move hasn't been touched since July 13th. Today it's about 1040ish. Until that line is broken there is no roll over. That's the Maginot Line. Everything up to that line is just foreplay.

  • MariAroma

    From George Ure —
“If you were sketching out a kind of mid-range path between Crawford's work, Cliff's linguistics work, Robin Landry's Elliott (and then some) and trying to sketch out a trading path, it might go something like this:

“From late October till early/mid December, a good-sized market decline, perhaps testing the March '09 market lows around Dow 6,627.

“Right after the first of the year, I'd be expecting a whole new chorus of “Good times are just ahead” and the 'gloves to come off' in terms of government control, imposition of group-think, and once the mutated swine flu comes out of the Winter Games, then lots of clamping down of people's freedom of movement.

“During this period, I'd be looking for energy to 'shoot the moon' along with the precious metals – oh boy!
And then as the social order collides with the globalist agenda over July-August, I'd look for the markets to be as bad as at any time in 200-years.”

    http://urbansurvival.com/week.htm

Interesting that this is also pretty much in line with Terry Laundry's time frames.

  • http://sshamster.blogspot.com/ Stainless_Steel_Hamster

  • fa_q

Yep. Picked up my new car in Munich and drove to Austria a couple years back – no speed limit for a decent stretch. Had it up to 130mph and got passed by an Audi S8 like I was standing still. Ridiculous.

    Dear Subscribers,

The latest Wednesday Market Update, issue no. 1190, October 21st, 2009, is available at http://www.technicalindicatorindex.com To access this report, simply log in and click on the Daily button.

For those of you with busy schedules, here is an executive summary:

The Industrials fell 92.12 points Wednesday, closing at 9,949.36. NYSE volume was higher on the decline at 117 percent of its 10 day average. Downside volume led at 73 percent, with declining issues at 66 percent, with downside points at 82 percent. S&P 500 Demand Power fell 6 points to 387, while Supply Pressure rose 7 points to 377, telling us Wednesday's decline was strong and solid. The 15, 30 and 60 minute Full Stochastics give indecisive guidance for Thursday.

At this stage of the game, we cannot rule out that Supercycle degree wave (B) up has topped, that the Bear Market rally from March 2009 has ended. Very short term bottom trend-lines were broken Wednesday, as shown on the chart at the bottom of page 7, so we need to respect the possibility that catastrophic wave (C ) down has started. We will be convinced catastrophic wave (C ) down has started once prices break decisively below the bottom boundary of Ascending Expanding Wedge pattern shown at the top of page 7, and break decisively below the bottom boundary of larger degree Rising Bearish Wedge patterns for the Industrials, S&P 500, and NDX, shown on pages 9 and 10.

Without a Hindenburg Omen at this time, if (C ) has started, it is possible this decline will start out slow, then build downside momentum later. The other possibility is what has just topped is wave a-up of an a-up, b-down, c-up move for wave (E) up. If so, the decline the past two days is part of wave b-down. This scenario would fit a couple of indicators well, that there are upside targets yet to be fulfilled from Bullish Head & Shoulders bottoms, and that there is a phi mate turn date due in a few weeks.

The charts on page 9 and 10 are ominous. Three major U.S. indices have reliable Rising Bearish Wedges with downside targets at the March 2009 lows, 666 in the S&P 500. This suggests a 38 percent plunge is coming. It should start soon and could last over a year.

The McClellan Oscillator fell to negative – 115.60 Wednesday. The Summation Index fell to positive + 4,359.76. The Demand Power/Supply Pressure indicators remain on an enter long positions signal Wednesday, October 21st. NYSE New Highs rose to 333, with New Lows at 5. We believe markets are setting themselves up for another series of Hindenburg Omens. Getting one would be a strong sell signal and warning catastrophic wave (C ) down was dead ahead, or had started. If a wave (C ) plunge occurs without a Hindenburg Omen, it will be an anomaly, the first time that has occurred in the last 25 years. A slow relentless decline could occur without an H.O.

The percent of DJIA stocks above their 30 day moving average fell to 66.67 from 73.33. The percent above 10 day fell to 46.67 from 60.00. The percent above 5 day fell to 26.67 from 43.33. The NYSE 10 day average Advance/Decline Line Indicator fell to positive + 194.4, remaining on a “buy” signal from October 8th, when it rose above the positive + 120.00 threshold for a new “buy.”
Our three Blue Chip key trend-finder indicators (other than the Demand Power/Supply Pressure Indicator) remain on a “sideways” signal Wednesday.

The NASDAQ 100 fell 2.63 points Wednesday, closing at 1,753.56. Our NDX key trend-finder indicators generated a new “sideways” signal Wednesday. The NDX has formed a textbook perfect Rising Bearish Wedge pattern, with many touches on the upper and lower boundary lines, which enhances the validity of this pattern. It looks to need just one more spike rally, however, this pattern can truncate, can see its last rally leg abbreviated, and then a horrendous plunge to at least the starting point of the pattern will follow, a drop to at least 1,050, a level 40 percent below where we are now.

The Russell 2000 fell 8.30 points Wednesday, closing at 605.11. The HUI Amex Gold Bugs Index fell 0.76 points Wednesday, closing at 437.26. November Gold rose to 1063.9. Silver rose to 17.82, while December Oil rose to 81.05. The Dollar fell 0.41 to 75.12. Bonds fell a point to 119^24. The VIX rose 1.32 to 22.22.

    China GDP growth (negative inflation…):

Despite surging share and property prices, consumer prices fell, with inflation at negative 1.1 percent so far this year, the statistics bureau said.

Pre-hour trading has opened in Germany and all is fine.

DAX is trading close to its first support of the day which is 5.760. Second support can be found at 5.700. The pivot is at 5.809.

Commerzbank finally lost its 8.20 support and lost it good. It's at about 8 now. There should be some support here, if not the next stop is 7.80.

I just can't see how this Mr. Bovine was responsible for this. The move was building for days now, all it needed was somebody to light the fuse.

  • raised_by_wolves

I've spent my evening drawing channels and meditating on them. The only one I'm going to share right now is my addition to Stainless Steel Chicken's “Great Channel.” This is the Dow Jones Industrials as far back as TOS Prophets will go. The green lines are the ones that SSC originally drew. The purple lines are the ones that I've added. For those of you paying attention, yes, I'm using the channel extension technique that PRSGuitars introduced to us.

    http://screencast.com/t/raN55DlsW

Revisiting the “Great Channel” has me asking questions. The one I will be sleeping on is this: Which scenario is more probable: The overhead green line stops INDU from advancing any further or a monthly candle overthrows this green line in the near future?

  • onorio

The lower TL of the channel from 04/oct is at 1.4935 a break of that TL could mean that this uptrend is over.

  • PRSGuitars

Oh wow, the 133! i didn't read your post more clearly before I commented — nice work man, I like how it subdivides the larger green into effectively thirds of quadrants — AND picks out a 66.6% line showing a great deal of respect so far, see yellow arrow on my chart (stolen so i dont have to reproduce in prophet @ this hour, very stoned, scalping /6E like a beast and /es like a wuss, trying to make sense of the miracle on 133.3rd street in the $DJT that I posted below… why is this stuff happening? Fluke?).

    http://screencast.com/t/FB08hO4fGW

(25% divided into 3rds = 8.33% so, first purple line off the midline is 50%+8.33% = 58.33%, and the second purple line off the midline of the larger green channel is 50% + 8.33% + 8.33% = 66.6% of the larger green channel).

  • springheel_jack

If the last wave up of the rally has indeed finished, which it most likely will have done IMO if we close below 1073 today or tomorrow, then here are some potential bounce points for the end of the first wave down:

    http://www.screencast.com/users/springheel_jack

The first bounce point is the main rally trendline at 1055, though there seems some confusion over where this is. I put it at 1055, kemal_1 agrees, but I have seen this put at 1035 and 1045 as well overnight. This would be the least satisfactory bounce point as it would leave too much doubt over whether the rally was indeed over & wouldn't be setting up another termination pattern that I could see.

The second bounce point is the lower channel of the Broadening Ascending Wedge Top pattern. This would still leave some doubt about whether the rally was over, as it would leave this termination pattern intact, but would then be setting up a sloping H&S pattern with a target top for the RS in the 1090 – 1095 area. I don't rate these sloping H&S patterns highly for reliability though.

The third target would be the October low in the 1020 – 1025 area. This would be the ideal target as it would break the other two key trendlines and set up for an H&S pattern with a target top for the RS of 1080 and an H&S target in the 940 area. One slight downside is that we would certainly need to break back through the lower trendline of the Broadening Ascending Wedge Top pattern to make the RS, but the RS would take another month to make and so we would be no more than re-testing the underside of the main rally trendline and should see an RS top in a tight range extending to about six days at the 1080 level which would give everyone plenty of time to optimise their short positions for the start of the third wave down.

Only opening and closing figures are important for these targets in my view, and we might of course just drop straight through all these levels if the impulse down is strong enough.

  • PRSGuitars

EUR reversal to downside possible, /DX at VWAP from above, EUR @ pivot from underneath +confluence resistance overhead from a channel TL

Just a heads up (onorio this is what i mentioned, just beware if you're still long and we dont retake 80 with conviction)

    http://bluechipbulldog.blogspot.com/2009/10/cha

The SPX runs the upper channel trendline on the main rally bear wedge back to November and is very well worth seeing IMO. It strengthens this trendline considerably and argues powerfully both that it is unlikely to be breached, and heightens the significance if it is strongly breached on a closing basis.

    Pre-Market warm up
SPX had a sell off from 14:30 EDT on. Around this time, Dick Bove came out and downgraded WFC. If anyone really believes that this was the cause of the sell-off, maybe you shouldn't be trading. My opinion is that somehow, somewhere in the system, there was a liquidity call and money had to be moved from one “location” to another. The end result was that equities suffered. Did you notice that the USD barely moved, given the thrashing that it had had earlier.

China came out and announced GDP expansion of 8.9% (we know it's not real, but the “market” doesn't). What was the result? Equity sell offs as “money” realized that this would increase the pressure to end the stimulus. If you haven't accepted it before now, the market moves based on stimulus. Don't pay attention to the POMO. That is the distraction. Look behind the curtain, and up the sleeves – metaphorically. Check the FED's B/S at close today, when it is released and look at which asset classes grew and which shrunk. That will tell you about the pressures that came to bear over the last week, on all asset classes.

    Equity
Asia was red about 1/2 a percent. Europe is red, over a percent. (DAX = -1.4%; FTSE = -1%). The MSM explanation is the fear of an end to stimulus. But there is never just a single reason. If you know anything about “fingers of instability”, then this was just a single grain of sand falling in conditions that led to many landslides on the pile that was already there. (see Mauldin for greater explanations).

    FX
USD and DXY were a little bit stronger into the Asia open, and stayed that way (getting a bit stronger as China opened). Currencies began to sell off stating around 11PM EDT, and except for the occasional correction (2AM), the DXY marched back up to 75.5ish. Since then (around 5AM) it has been selling off into the NY open (i.e. once Asia closed, London began to sell down the USD again, it appears).

    Asian sovereigns have sure been busy today;
    For a recap;
Bought cable below 1.6500, now up at 1.6560
Bought EUR/USD between 1.4940/60, now up at 1.4995
Bought AUD/USD below .9200, now up at .9230.

    EUR pivots:
R1: 1.5079 = probably a lot of stops to sell around this level.
Neutral: 1.4984 = was a floor from 9PM to around midnight and then folded.
S1: 1.4921 = starting point for the exotic option wars from 8AM to 10AM yesterday.

    NEWS
China has 8.9% growth (the way they measure, it's really debt growth).
Dollar rallies. But will there be follow through, or once the CBs go home will the market thrash it again?
EU members will have to start cutting deficits in 2011 (that's a long ways off and doesn't say much for the end of stimulus).
Watch out for data at 8:30. It will be a mover, I think.

    Data
    8:30 Jobless data
9AM RPX composite (whatever that is)
10AM Leading indicators (when the stock market is one of them – it's a self-fulfilling prophecy for the growth myth).
    10AM House price index.

That's all for now, as time is pressing. I'll do another post on SPX soon.

    SPX
Here is that same daily SPX chart of mine, zoomed in.
    http://screencast.com/t/JzyS6lTuk

I just want to emphasize that in TA, NOTHING IS ABSOLUTE. TA is best used to set limits defining any thesis. If I think that SPX is going down to the 1050 level, then I should have a stop point that defines WHERE THIS ASSUMPTION IS NULLIFIED, or JUST PLAIN WRONG.

To me, that is the “CHANNEL TOP” (the violet and yellow upward trending lines, as labelled). We are still in that giant bearish wedge between BIG WHITE and ULTRAVIOLET, and they meet sometime at the start of the second half of November.

In the shorter term, You can see the mid-Bollinger (grey squiggly line) just above BIG YELLOW – this is the first level (non-pivot) of support. According to the legend on the chart, it is at 1065.60. I'm not sure that BIG YELLOW is relevant as a support level – but it may be given that it was relevant as resistance (see Sept 23rd on chart where we bumped against it).
ULTRAVIOLET is around 1050 in a couple of days and rising – but we didn't touch it at the start of October when I thought we would – so it may not be as accurate as one would like.

Long story short: Look for support from the mid-bollinger, and then somewhere near ULTRAVIOLET. It could be just a bounce, it could be the start of the next leg up. That is why one needs to set limits and stops.

    ES pivots:
ES has been tracing out a megaphone all night in a fairly tight range. Guess the close was a shock for a lot of players and it took until Asia closed for some strentth to come back into the bulls' BUY finger on the button.
R2: 1109.00 – looks like a good enough end to the next wave up, no?
R1: 1093.50 – Near the highs from yesterday.
Neutral: 1083 – doesn't look like this was a factor overnight. heh.
    S1: 1067.50 – Not a factor overnight either.
S2: 1057.00 – where the bears want to be today.

Watch the news in 3 minutes and watch out for the head fakes.

My opinion is that there is never one cockroach, and that there are many, many, many over-leveraged hedge funds playing the USD – all betting that they will be able to be the first out the door when the curtains catch fire. tsk tsk. If the ECB ever puts its money where its mouth is (please no jokes about Uncle Sam's dick and elastic bands) and does something about the USD, then it will be horrible. I think the ECB only needs to start a single snowflake down that slope in order to get an avalanche by the bottom.

Lesser brokers (thinkorswim included, sorry guys but your forex sucks) put it in the spread, and you can only take the quote they give you — no opportunity for price improvement or for offering liquidity.

Others are saying that there was stop running in EUR/JPY that pulled the EURUSD along with it.

In any case, the rumours mean that there is no observable reason for what is happening in EUR and DXY right no – so traders are looking for excuses and reasons. i.e. It is not trading on fundamentals but emotion at the present time, so anything can happen.

They are not filing suits yet as there is nothing in law at this time. Levin covered last night, and in “Libeerty and Tyranny”, how Soccial Security and Unemployent were challenged in 1937. The case was Helverine v. Davis and FDR was saying to the people that it wasn't a tax, it was insurance in case you got sick. But the lawyers said to the court that it WAS a tax because you can't compell people to buy insurance and the court would have struck it down. They argued it was a tax and the court went along with the lie. Here it is even more clear as to what is happening as they are saying you must purchase private insurance if you won't take the government insurance, which is forcing people to make a purchase, or the public will be penalized if they don't have coverage. It is widely unconstitutional. Levin thinks they will try to argue it is a tax and that is why they are trying to load the appellate court with lefties so they can implement it before it get to the SC. And if enough people get it for free, the political will to repeal it likely will buckle.

Any disagreement, call Mark Levin's show 6-9 PM. 1-877-381-3811

Nice idea, but what about those of us who work with tea-leaves rather than straight lines?

  • raised_by_wolves

    What I think:

Assuming the rally does not do a real roll over and die but does a fake roll over and die, there will be a time and price where the rally resurrects to begin a new uptrend. This inflection point may be predictable though difficult to predict.

Why I think what I think, abridged edition:

The market markers already know how to do this trick, and they may need to do it again. With the 61.8 Fib fan on the SPX acting as major resistance the last three days, with the 50% retracement of P1 just above it, and with the 75% meridian on what Stainless Steel Chicken calls the “Great Channel on the Dow Jones Industrials” looming large, the market markers will either have to do a series of smaller gravity-defying dance steps through all this resistance or they will have to set a bear trap yet once again to get the thrust they need to achieve terminal velocity.

“Psst! Come around to the back door, and use the secret knock. I have something for you, man”:

The majority of the rally fits in the channel between the solid green lines. The 133% of 133% extension saved the rally at the time of the infamous head and shoulders bear trap. At that time, the channel was not obvious much less the extensions. The channel should now be more obvious to market participants, at least to the channel lovers. Because the 133%, 133% of 133%, and 150% extensions are less obvious, they are more likely to be the next inflection points should a fake roll over and die occur with a nasty bear trap ensnaring us again.

Here's some thoughts I ran by Mole yesterday.

ICE – Short on that lovely candle yesterday. Nice A-B-C wave 2 off of a truncated 5th.
CCJ – Short from declining volume and a double spike top.
MTN – Broke upward trendline again. Volume. Spike double top (potential).
DRI and PFCB short on a pull-back.
    X – Short below 41
Was long CNH, but looks like a good short soon.
FWLT – I keep touting this one. A break of 31 would seal the deal.
MA – Will short today if the candle can turn red.
FSLR – watching the volume for a b/o.

Wow thats lame! I didnt notice it didnt capture some of my text – that sucks. I'll try to redo it later today…

basically it just fleshed out my math and rationale for why that line is significant — that if Green is 100, Red is 25, Green is 33, and Purple is 8.3% respectively — and how I came to realize that the one line (yellow arrow) is exactly 66.6% of the whole channel, which is a non-standard reference line

One of my wife's girl friends (52 now) was, and still is, VERY good looking and in good shape and ran a marathon at age 35 to which we were all stunned as high heels were more her forte'. She was working out at the gym and when guys started to look closely or talk to her she took someone's advice and feigned an involuntary head tick. She said it was easier than saying “Do you see the ring on my finger? No, I guess you don't.” She said it was amazing how guys suddenly had to leave when you give jsut a little head snap/tremor 2-3 times a minute. LOL

Report back on how it works out for you! LOL

    Anna,

Did you read that ZH article from the bank for Inteernational Settlement on Monday? We flooded the world with ddollars, which wwas probaably unconstitutional, but I digress. I think it was Tyler's comments were that in the event of a handful of other problems, there could be a massive rush for dollars and that Bernanke can't print $10 Trillion in a day.

I suspect that should there be a large gap up one day it will be a buy even at the high prrice aas it's the start, just as when the Euro collapsed last August 2008. In fact, that chart before the collapse ooks a lot like the SPX right now!

So, what does everyone think of Mole's new post that we can't comment on?

This is trivial, but I noticed Mole made a little typo by labeling a second “iv” that should be labelled “v.” It could have been an intentional mistake to see if anyone is paying attention. (Yes, I'm aware that I have a brown nose).

My internal odds calculator tells me there is a 70% chance of Mole's wave count fleshing out. I'd say there's a 29% chance of a gravity-defying push above 1085 all the way up to the 61.8 Fib fan. That leaves room for a 1% chance of. . . .

  • springheel_jack

Very busy chart for everyone here. Apologies for the dense content but I was trying to fit a lot into it:

    http://www.screencast.com/users/springheel_jack

It is the updated rally wedges & trendlines chart with the bear wedge upper channel drawn back to Nov '08, and the declining trendline from the Oct '07 peak to the May '08 top.

Interestingly the two key trendlines (black) will intersect at about 1110 in slightly over a week.

Another thing to note is that the bear wedge from July only, which broke downwards in late September, has retested the lower channel line (blue), now at 1100 and rising at about two points per day, and failed to break back in with any conviction. That strengthens the bearish case here IMO, and suggests any significant rips here should be sold.

If we haven't already made at minimum a major interim top, we should not be more than a few days from doing so IMO.

IHS on SPX with the neckline at 1085 indicating to 1095. We may get another chance to short from 1095 if it plays out.

  • gregn

    “I say Bull trap too…
I mean look at the Zero, it's not big, but it kinda whispers that in your ear in my opinion…”

By that same token, yesterday EOD action could be perceived as a bear trap as there was no participation on Zero as noted by Mole.

  • Autopsias

We have a saying in Portugal which I'll adapt a bit…

“Divergences are like dicks, which one has its ownn…” ๐Ÿ˜‰

I saw a bear divergence on the thing yesterday too, but that's my Martian mind probably…

  • springheel_jack

Thanks for that SSH, it strengthens the trendline hugely. We are at a veritable forest of resistance here. Very hard to see us getting past 1120 at the absolute outside.

If we do get to 1121 on a closing basis though, there is little resistance below 1160 and then 1200. In that case we should get at least couple of retests of the rising trendline though as resistance turned support.

  • gregn

“Fun Facts” from the US Mint…. Please Compare & Contrast the Roman Empire and the Good ol' US of A… anybody know what fun facts are in latin?

    The Composition of the Cent

Following is a brief chronology of the metal composition of the cent coin (penny):

    * The composition was pure copper from 1793 to 1837.
    * From 1837 to 1857, the cent was made of bronze (95 percent copper, and five percent tin and zinc).
    * From 1857, the cent was 88 percent copper and 12 percent nickel, giving the coin a whitish appearance.
    * The cent was again bronze (95 percent copper, and five percent tin and zinc) from 1864 to 1962.
(Note: In 1943, the coin's composition was changed to zinc-coated steel. This change was only for the year 1943 and was due to the critical use of copper for the war effort. However, a limited number of copper pennies were minted that year. You can read more about the rare, collectible 1943 copper penny in “What's So Special about the 1943 Copper Penny.”)
    * In 1962, the cent's tin content, which was quite small, was removed. That made the metal composition of the cent 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc.
    * The alloy remained 95 percent copper and 5 percent zinc until 1982, when the composition was changed to 97.5 percent zinc and 2.5 percent copper (copper-plated zinc). Cents of both compositions appeared in that year.

    Repost:

Give me feedback so I don't get pissed off and stop putting the food on your spoon.

  • flyboy08

ICE is closing in on its 52 week high…I believe around 116..played that down to 98 last July. Will watch it for a few days. FSLR is hard to short for me on Schwab, but I agree its rips. And MA, I could never go against Anna, but I see it going to 170-175 if the mkt tanks.

I dont think anyone should take it personally — though I can understand being bummed when you work hard for no real social applause or perceived benefit to others (it's there, even if you can't see it; I remember Tim Knight estimated that something like 1 in 100 readers actually comment on a regular basis, so of THOSE, posting good commentary puts you in quite an echelon!).

Because we all like our hard work to be recognized. On a day like today when the market is slow, it would be a great time to have a discussion about future trades and trading set-ups.

Also, because between posting and commenting, several of us put in a full work day of effort into the blog. When that goes seemingly unnoticed, it can be irritating, no?

Also, to see pertinent discussion ignored, but casual conversation roar on is mildly annoying at best, and make me whole-heartedly want to move to greener pastures at worst.

Finally. Do you not like input on your analysis. I may be good, but I never claimed to be perfect. I am constantly trying to learn, and ALWAYS seek second (or third) opinions on my trades. The more info for me, the better. That is why I get upset.

So, what did I say this morning? If ES pushed up into the yesterday/overnight value area on its Market Profile and held in there, it could be very interesting for the bulls. ๐Ÿ˜‰

My next gut feeling is that this may not hold near the close – that ES takes a run back to VWAP.

Question: any big earnings on the way after the close?

  • gregn

Yeah I noticed the same thing while I was looking at berk's fractal chart. This pattern of diminishing magnitudes definitely shows we are running out of momentum/near the top.

  • gregn

I feel that we are going to have a repeat of Sep14-26 here. We had a violent drop, then a retrace of 61.8% of drop, got a little higher than that retrace then another violent fall.

  • Trader_Steve

In the final analysis, trading is NOT a team effort. Sure, I like to see the ideas of others and I appreciate them. I could post charts but usually someone with ssoftware far easier to notate is well ahead off me. But we are not an investment club and it's really easy to be pissed off on a day like today. I think people know who appreciates their work.

  • TheMacroEconomist

  • TheMacroEconomist

Oh it was index arb programs on NYSE but you can bet they were reacting to the futs pits in Chicago. After trading in the MP value area for an hour, ES takes off and goes right to the other side side of the value area. Textbook.

Let's see if they push it higher now with Oil and Gold open outcry closed.

If I understandd what you are saying properly then there will be no finishing down to 1055-1060 as the aABC is already done with an elongateed C and the top is not in. We'll have a better idea when we see what happens from here.

It looks like we have 5-3-5 here. If it stops we have a ZZ. If not, kiss the bearish count of everyone goodbye for now. And I DON'T like having to see that happen.

Market Profile is a volume histogram of areas where size is traded, so, a return to a heavily traded area (1076 – 1080 /es or 1085-1095 /es, depending on what timeframe) is probable.

  • gregn

Oh ๐Ÿ™‚ Why are we all here then still? I am going to cross over. See you on the other side.

  • Trader_Steve

I figured it was close to that.

I screwed myself by being over 100% short coming in. Fidelity has a set amount based upon your account as to what you can day trade each day But if you exit something and put it back on, you still have to deal with only what you were allotted to day trade. So I couldn't buy enough SSO against SDS at the low. If I sold all the SDS out I could not have put it all back on, but by buying SSO it didn't affect margin. And the entire direction today, metaphysically speaking, was determined by me deciding what to do with that SDS position as I could have ended up watching a collapse if I sold it all out by not being able to get back in.

It took me over a year to figure out what with a good amount of money in my account that I would get “day trading calls” that had to be met.

    Thanks,
    Steve

  • http://dreadwinaard.livejournal.com dreadwin

Early in today's trading, IYR bounced off the 50 MA, and has completely retraced the drop from yesterday's highs.

  • TheMacroEconomist

Oh for the CBOE MMs? Look at the option chain for SPX – the full sized cash settled contracts.

For the closing anomalies you can also look at SPY options from 4-4:15. Save a chain of Nov. SPX or SPY about 3:57 and then compare with 4-4:15 as the MMs rush to go flat.

  • TheMacroEconomist

Here come those big negative TICKs on the way back to VWAP but may be too little too late. Probably I will leave the IWM 61 puts on the table.

Understood. I am long DXY (to my short term chagrin but longer term gain, hopefully). But, until the CBs do more than jawbone, or some crisis causes a flight to (chortle) quality /safety, I think the USD will be everyones’ bitch.

Even when BoC says intervention is possible, traders take the CAD stronger.ย  THey know that BoC has no target for CAD, just for inflation.

Jawboning no longer works. So the DXY will put a toe into the frigid water abover 1.505 and see if anyone does anything. At some point, anyway……
