So Many Juicy Setups

by The MoleNovember 19, 2013

Welcome to our morning briefing. Here we are reviewing short term setups ahead of the NYSE opening bell. If you are a scalper or swing trader then these setups may be of interest to you. As usual keep in mind that these are short term setups although they could be used as early entries for more longer term positions.

We’ve got movement people! The spoos are back at the 100-hour SMA and I think we toil around here for a while before we see a decisive breach (in either direction – I’m not biased here). In a perfect world we would see those two SMAs converge a bit more. Either way – if we get a breach I’m pulling the trigger.

Bonds are looking super sweet this morning – here’s my second favorite, the ZB. Excellent diagonal support so we’ll put our stop below it. Long on breach of hourly NLBL. I love how the 25-hour is lining up here – this is as good as it gets.

My favorite is the ZN but you’ll need a secret decoder ring to see that one 😉

Someone posted a LT P/C ratio chart in the previous thread. Personally I’d prefer a stop into 0.52 on my SMA(5).

  • amokta

Good to see Mole keeping his cool, while others run around like headless slopers (no disrespect intended!)
Sticking to rules, and not calling market tops = discipline.
Ok, time to pay for a zero subscription in Bitcoins? :-)

Today would be the day! 😉

If you think you had a bad trading day:

  • Skynard

Long /NG on the pull back/re-test.

  • amokta

Ok, looks like we have made a meerkat top!

ok, pic too big so deleted it!

  • CorporalCarrot

    Mole any comment on cotton?

  • CorporalCarrot

Short cotton at 76.30. Stop at previous candle high.

  • Objectively_Bias

Long order in @ 1789 – 20/60 EMA support and the same level as the NLSL that was rejected in Globex. Not to mention the hammer candle…me likey

  • Greed is Good

Guess that little flip back up into the green at the close yesterday by the Dow was somewhat telling. I’ve just got some Feb SPY 180 calls I’ve had for a few weeks with a loose stop…that will trigger around SPX 1780 and SPY 178. Right now I feel like the odds are pretty good we don’t get down there this week.

  • SS_JJ

Short below ES 1787, just in case today was the retest of the high

  • http://dartht.blogspot.com/ Heisen_Gerb

    sounds reasonable.
i’m wondering about a surprise uppercut (green arrow)

  • SS_JJ

I don’t wonder too much as everything is possible. I’m in the trade now. Stop set 1 handle above VWAP.

  • http://dartht.blogspot.com/ Heisen_Gerb

if it doesn’t work, will you flip it? ie: are you a binary guy?
    I see 1787.50 as a support area.

  • SS_JJ

Don’t know yet, but right now I don’t think so. It’s not like ZL is very bullish right now.

  • http://dartht.blogspot.com/ Heisen_Gerb

well, you didn’t have to me that. 😉

  • CorporalCarrot

Been recycling shorts today from overnight lows to today’s highs rinsing and repeating. Mainly Dow focused which looks like painting a double inverted hammer with inside day to boot. If this stands this would create an amazing setup for tomorrow.

  • SS_JJ

    stopped.

  • http://dartht.blogspot.com/ Heisen_Gerb

if it worked, 1782/83 would have been the destination.

    next thousand trades.

  • SS_JJ

Precisely. Right now the green uppercut is in play, but I am standing aside as there is no participation. If I see a blue arrow pointing down with a divergent ZL I may try a short again. Same thing if ES 1786 does not hold as support. Until then it’s sit and observe for me.

isn’t it great to have a place to talk about setups, and not deal with the ego bullshit & wave counting? I think EvilSpec should get a top rank this year.

  • Skynard

    Wild one, full long /NG:)

  • http://dartht.blogspot.com/ Heisen_Gerb

holy burrito, that’s a risky bet.

coiled spring with no hint of direction.

  • SS_JJ

Yup. Fully agree. This is The best trading site.

  • Dyellowflash

    Virtual coins?

  • bdoone

Speaking of bets, someone paid $1.02 for 100k VIX Feb 20-28 call spreads. Whether a spec bet or hedge its still a $10M nut.

  • Fearless

That’s probably because the VIX is going to 20 relatively soon.

  • bdoone

    I knew it was you!

  • Sean

IP-S and looks like an RT-S… seems like VIX and TICK are supporting the direction… and may lose the 25h MA…

  • SS_JJ

    Great set-up.

  • SS_JJ

    Short again

  • http://dartht.blogspot.com/ Heisen_Gerb

well well, 1784.. it is a range day.
