Midterms 2018

by The MoleNovember 6, 2018

First up, if you haven’t gone out and voted already: Stop reading right now and head down to your local voting location to exercise your constitutionally guaranteed right as a U.S. citizen. No ifs or buts – frankly I don’t want to hear it and nobody really cares. Also please ignore any reports of incorrectly functioning voting booths. After all we wouldn’t want to see another voting accident, would we?

Alright with that out of the way let’s talk equities which are starting to look uppity. Although I would have preferred a touch of the 100-hour SMA I decided to take on an early speculative position with a stop < 2700. I can’t be sure that’s wide enough to endure today’s gyrations but a drop through that probably draws us much lower anyway.

Momo is looking supportive across equities as breadth seems to be in recovery mode after a massive drop in late summer into early fall. Usually pushes > the lower BB suggest short term BTFD opportunities. It doesn’t work all the time but it works often enough to offer an edge to the consummate market megalomaniac.

I shared my IVTS tale with you the other day, thus I’m elated to see that it is starting to drop < the 1.0 mark. Which of course means that VIXEN should start triggering again shortly (pun intended).

Gold has made a surprising comeback and is now getting close to bracing its prior spike highs on the hourly. As much as I hate to admit it but that daily panel looks bullish as frack so if she blows she’ll blow big.

What’s even more surprising is that the inversely correlated USD/JPY has drooped lower but thus far is holding at about 0.5R after touching an MFE of 1R. I’m keeping my stop at break/even here and let those two duke it out.

And my previously most favorite chart has now turned into my least favorite of the day: The Dollar of course which unfortunately reversed and bestowed me with a stop out at break/even. Annoying as I have an inkling it’s going to bust higher after tonight’s election results. I would bitch about it more but as I mentioned further above – nobody cares πŸ˜‰

Public Service Announcement

Once per year the king of Spain is being hosted here in Valencia and it always happens literally in the ancient public building right in front of me. They already brought in massive generators and various trucks, media coverage galore, the entire street is turning into a massive circus. I kid you not, the Spanish secret service knocked at our door a few days ago checking our passports and taking notes just to make sure I wasn’t some type of subversive.

King Felipe VI of Spain

I’m digging the beard action and before you ladies all start swooning – sorry, he’s already taken. Anyway what this means for me is that, given all the commotion, I’ll be forced to get the hell out of dodge and spent most of my afternoon somewhere else, most likely at the gym. Which means no post tomorrow guys unless of course the wrong party wins and the market tanks πŸ˜‰

    I voted. The new system here in NY has these paper sheets where you fill in the “hole” with a felt tip pen (think – SAT), then bring it to a machine that sucks the paper in and lets you know if it went thru. We use to have voting booths, with curtain and machine with levers. It used to be: push-pull-click-click. NOW, it take 4 times as long and is not very anonymous. Plus, there’s tree killing involved. Everyone hates it..but it was forced upon us.

  • Sp00nman

    Doesn’t matter isn’t the right terminology, making a difference is perhaps the bigger question. The primary reason I go to vote is for local changes on the ballot. Those I can make a difference on.

    RW Speaking of bogus tickets …. We got one in Eastern Oregon speeding.returning to Montana The Deputy counted fence posts we passed … What the “Heck”. The Deputy did not realize that my husband was so angry about how it was done and he returned to Oregon for the court date. They never think that you would return for the court appearance and just pay the bail and or fine by mail. Lo and behold the Deputy was aghast and had to tell the truth as my husband put him on the spot. My husband admiitted to speeding but the judge through it out and reprimanded the Deputy

    Kinda/sorta relevant to the OP, but odds with the Betfair Exchange in the UK have been around 2.5/1 to 3/1 against the Republicucks winning the House. I’ve had a decent wager on them doing just that.

    Reading some of the comments on voting here, I note that very few of you are redpilled on the world. Suggested reading (for the Right leaning of you): Jim’s Blog; Vox Popoli, Anonymous Conservative, Neon Revolt. Nothing is as it seems.

    Get some actual real physical gold, a repeat of the 70s lies ahead (but worse) physical gold heading for c. $30k. USD heading to bonfires, GBP/Yen too, not the Euro, zee price stabilitee reigns for the ECB.

    No silver thanks, just gold. XAU (i.e. spot gold) will likely be gone by the end of 2020. The LBMA banks will be in such bother by then, especially the European banks, it’ll be a ‘gold bank run’. XAU price likely to collapse first though, as paper holders flee. Also, little known fact, the ECB are authorised via the Maastricht Treaty to QE into physical gold (the actual wording is ‘precious metals, but they only like gold). Good chance they’ll do that at the worst of it in c. 2020. (Disclosure, I am a small time UK gold dealer, but no online presence, just for local clients, I’m 90% in gold).

    I discovered the ‘gold/monetary system’ story back in 2011. Been bullish physical gold since then.

    >One thing I’ve learned is that the EOW trades are very low probability.

    Physical gold is not an EOW trade, that would be bunkers, food, guns etc. That comes after 2032 BTW.

    >The banks and financial system will find a way to patch the ship one way
    or another. I don’t think next time will be that different.

    Yep, the way they patch the ship this time (like in the 30s and the 70s) is by pushing up the gold price to recapitalise the system, nothing new or whacky about it. The only new thing this time is the global readiness, and the new-style super-currency, the Euro. It’s why gold is always in the system. If curious, go look at Brown’s Bottom, and when the BIS opened its Hong Kong office. Tick tock.

    One of the few occupations left out there that over time rewards the best qualities in a person whilst almost instantly punishing every single vice, except maybe some amount of obsession combined with greed. Very few have the steadfastness and personal humility to keep on pushing after getting smashed the first few times. I see them shake out all the time. Can the market continue higher without housing though? I’m skeptical. For a year or less is one thing, but housing has shown signs of a top already which is obviously not bullish. It’s such a big part of the economy. Maybe commodities falling (lumber, oil, etc) could help housing, but rising rates are the bigger issue it seems.

    WA: 2603 – 2756.55 = 153.55
    WB: 2756.55 – 2700 = 56.55 (38% retrace)

    WC targets:
    61.8% of WA: (94.894) = 2794.89
    100% of WA: (153.55) = 2853.55
    123.6% of WA: (189.79) = 2889.79

    61.8% retracement of 2940.91 -> 2603 = 2811.83
    76.4% retracement of 2940.91 -> 2603 = 2861.16
    85.4% retracement of 2940.91 -> 2603 = 2891.58

    Looks like there’s a confluence in the 2853-2861 area and the 2889-2891 area. Those regions are my targets.

    Well, while we tend not to skew too conservative in these parts, you couldn’t find nicer folks and nicer land than here in the Willamette Valley (Corvallis, Oregon to be precise). Great fishing, cougars and bears in the mountains for animal adventurers, thriving university…..full disclosure: you gotta like a bit of rain along with all the green!

    LOL!

    VMIN worked… I was in that at 2.4 but didn’t trust solvency as no One here heard of it. 2.4 to 2.9 so far as a short V vehicle

    Rain, yes so I heard – and plenty of it πŸ˜‰

    “gets less rain than San Francisco”

    LOL – that is not a difficult feat my friend. I used to live up there and hated every single moment of it.

    Despite the HUGE rally in US markets yesterday the DAX remains subdued and could be on the verge of breaking down from a rising wedge (BEARISH). Coupled with that there is still a large head (13470) n shoulders formation still in play (neckline 11730-11800) target 10200 https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5ea1e3e6d442ac89fbd5f25842b1071d385b534790ed381f6959f34f3f4833fd.png

    This may tie in with a fall in US markets- whatever there is a disconnect at the moment..but a fall in US could continue the correction …
    Alt: US continues to rally and DAX breaks upwards

    What do you base this hypothesis on?
