The Road Ahead

by The MoleOctober 25, 2008

I encourage you all to watch Roubini’s latest economic report split into the following five clips. BTW, it’s a lot more fun if you play them all at the same time:

Part 1:

Part 2:

Part 3:

Part 4:

Part 5:

If you got all the way to here, it’s Monday morning! So sorry for screwing up your weekend 🙂 Mwwuuaaahahahaaaa!!

hahaha, this is funny. I've been in a couple of parties at his huge apartment in New York. Lot's of pretty girls!

    Anyway, here my last post:

    http://moontrader.wordpress.com

I also posted the circuit breaker rules, in case you decide to cover your position just before the halts.

    See you all on Monday!

  • molecool

    Good stuff moony, thanks.

  • gagelle

Thanks molecool and Berk for Dr. Roubini's interview. The thing that strikes me the strongest is that people laughed at him when he made his predictions which subsequently proved true. So we have to plan our strategy accordingly with the assunption that his scenerio is correct. The problem, as always, is timing. The will be spikes and bear rallies from which we have to protect ourselves.

Also, It does not screw up my weekend to hear a brilliant person speak. To listen to and accept the truth is a virtue, and I'm grateful for your posting.

“Sad business, this holding out against having a good time. Life is a pic-nic en costume; one must take a part, assume a character, stand ready in a sensible way to play the fool. To come in plain clothes, with a long face, as a wiseacre, only makes one a discomfort to himself, and a blot upon the scene.” Herman Melville, “The Confidence Man: His Masquerade”

I was reading another blog that the VIX moves in 17 points increments and the VIX next stop is 87.15.

  • boomer55

Molecool, this chart confirms your gold targets. Out right deflation.

    Long term chart: http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=$CRB:$USD&p=D&

Makes me want to be long the dollar?

I received an interesting Email regarding the debt of Eastern Europe versus that of Asia before their crisis in the 90's. Have a peek:

Let me play a devil's advocate here.
Is there a possibility that it's a overshoot, soon to reverse to the upside?

  • http://www.myspace.com/181419967 JZT_CHIL

For those of you considering moving abroad for good… now you can consider Latin America.
Argentina went thru severe [5600 annualized] inflation rate in Jan 1990 after their government “printed more money”… that was a great lesson for them… 'sure hope that wouldn't happen here, imagine $500 just to fill up the tank of your car.
You know, lotsa super models come from Brazil (^_^)

  • BigHouse (Aka Mr Vix)

They already wrote 110 120 and 130 lines for nov . Its at 79.13. nextstop is not 87.15 but over 100.

  • mimi66

Can it be the next high before the rally and then 110 120 and 130 later in the week or after the election?

    http://www.stocktock.com

  • BigHouse (Aka Mr Vix)

not sure mimi. Either stocks go down now or chop around until we find out who wins the election.People are talking about the market factoring an Obama win and thats why its starting to dump now.In terms of the Vix…When they had the 87 crash they didn't have a Vix but something like it called the VXO. That shot up to 172.79 during the crash.

  • mimi66

I am short over the weekend and I hope we dont get a rally on Monday.

  • BigHouse (Aka Mr Vix)

I cant believe i am listening to these clips on a Sat night. Maybe b/cthe weather in th North East is shitty.

  • gagelle

Are you referring to the market's short term trend? If so, then I think it's very possible to get a reversal, or even a violent run up. But it would all still be part of a gigantic bear market. I have no doubts about Dr. Roubini's veracity.

  • BigHouse (Aka Mr Vix)

Well i will be watching bloomberg tv Sunday Night to see how overseas are doing and our futures.

  • C.C. Rider

I'm in the camp calling for a Tuesday intraday reversal to the upside, probably last hour of trading. Sellers get washed out, and the vultures move in to pick the carcasses!

  • mimi66

    Where in the North East?

Its beautiful down here in Texas.

  • BigHouse (Aka Mr Vix)

  • BigHouse (Aka Mr Vix)

    Thanks for the chart moon

I grew up in Ohio..I hated the winters

    Dallas-Fort Worth

  • BigHouse (Aka Mr Vix)

I hear ya in terms of the winters. I have to be in Houston on Monday for a conference. This is going to be a problem for me in terms of watching the market. B/c of this i got out of my Vix Nov 90 calls just in case of a rally but kept my Nov 80 calls if we go down hard Monday -Tuesday. I have a feeling i am going to be in the back corner of the room sneaking a peak at the Vix and of course, this evil website lol

  • mimi66

That sucks…I try to schedule my meetings after the market closes..lol.

Houston is about 4 hours from Dallas-Fort Worth.

  • http://moontrader.wordpress.com/ Moontrader

I think we'll have a bottom/reversal soon. I'm just trying to speculate on the target.

If I had VIX calls, and not be able to watch, I will set up a limit sell trap maybe at 2 spots or so, in case of split second spike occurs…

  • Ukla the Mokk

Berk/mole…as always, thanks for all your collective hard work on this blog. But also, thanks for not pushing your politics. That shit is just as disappointing as it is irritating.

This is not a political blog – all I care about is for us all to make it through this financial catastrophe. No matter who the next prez will be – he'll have very limited power to prevent a depression.

  • molecool

It seems the permabulls have priced in everything from financial Armageddon to WW3. Let's not forget that the market right now is being controlled by primary dealers, which is very clear from Friday's tape. The average investor simply doesn't jump in when the futures are halted in early trading. The PPT is throwing in the kitchen sink to prevent a market crash before Nov. 4th. They might succeed, but even then the market is going to crash a day or two after.

  • http://z-stock.blogspot.com/ zstock

I guess this is where the bears are getting all their ammo.
DOW can still break the 1931 OCT record, down 31%.
    It's down 23% ( 08' OCT), which ties the previous 4 records.

  • SteveInChicago (spsnomad)

Really! Grew up in Rochester, went to SUNY Buffalo.

  • T.B. Aurelius

    I embrace you my alumni.
Lived in Porter hall & South wing.
All those days of school closing due to snowing in….
Ahhhh…those tasty wings from the pubs on Elmwood st….

Buffalo is so beautiful when the fall rolls in doesn't it??

I, like you went to SUNY at Buffalo, did not grow up there…
I miss Buffalo, I think I am gonna visit it soon…

  • SteveInChicago (spsnomad)

No kidding! I lived in Goodyear on the Main Street campus for the first two years. When were you there? I did a BS in Industrial Engineering from 1987-1991 and a MBA from 1991-1993.

And yes, this time of year is pretty great, and ski season is coming up — I really miss it now that I'm in the midwest! When I was at UB, they only closed the school for one day over the whone 5 1/2 years…

  • T.B. Aurelius

    Dude…
Remember the “Kissing Bridge” ski slopes?
I took two years of PE cause it was ski.
I was there before you were…
You moved onto UB after Buff State? or all the way in UB?
