Quick Post FOMC Update

by The MoleFebruary 18, 2015

Every month we have to endure thy holy entrails reading courtesy of the Federated Oracle Market Cult. It’s a completely wasted session and I wish they would just get it over with and announce that the procedure was a total success but that the patient had died a long time ago. But alas – this is not ZeroEdge and if smoke and mirrors is what we’ll live by that’s just fine by me. I just work here and after me the flood as they say – yes, I’m a capitalist prick (not really but I hate therapists and it’s a fun persona if you’re running a financial blog).

Many of the morning setups didn’t move and the forex side was rather disappointing. So let’s focus on the productive ones. I posted about the NQ earlier but the spoos is where I want to be long now with a stop below the hour SMA.

ZT – 2-year note futures – that’s some massive candle boner™ action here and we can count another perfect entry notch. I’m holding this sucker as it just managed to bust through the 100-day SMA and a daily NLBL. Let’s see if we can run this puppy higher.

ZB – 30-year bond futures – not as ambitious as the ZT but I’m grabbing 1/4R here right now.

Silver – I’m also grabbing 1/2R here with a stop below today’s lows.

That’s it – I’m not grabbing any other positions here for the day. I want the tape to work itself through the obligatory follow up rumors and mental masturbations before I dip into any new setups.

Re-entered my crude short, after being stopped out. Brent is leading down, like it was leading up until today. It just broke yesterday’s low. /CL still has a way to go to the yday low. I guess it’s the lower dollar perception… but I’m not gonna think of it, just the chart.

  • RacerXX

Dammit Mole, you beat me to trademarking “Candle Boner”.

  • Gold_Gerb

    dropped my gold hedge.
selling (is happening) above the MA.

  • squirrelsome

If it’s a hedge why dropping it? It barely moved and /DX seems unimpressed, still in the last 4 days range. Just curious what is spooking you because I am still short gold and would get out too if needed.

EDIT: oh, I see, you were long. Sorry, disregard.

  • Billabong

Miners started moving up about 40 mins ago … this may be a day thing or not.

  • Billabong

On Monday, I was thinking about some of my friends up in MA who have recently been clobbered with snow storm after snow storm. Living here in the Southeast, I’m grateful that I didn’t have to shovel or drive in any of that stuff.

Unfortunately, the last storm (whatever the fuck its name is) was severe enough to bring a severe Ice Storm all the way down here. After only about 2 hours into the Ice Storm, my power went out and didn’t return until just now. This meant freezing our asses off for 2 nights with outside temps in the 20’s. A hotel might have been in order but with 2 cats, we decided to stick it out and stay home. I even bought a generator yesterday to have some kind of electric power in the house.

Now my friends up north had something like 90 inches of snow over a few days, sub freezing weather and never lost their power. My area lost power after 2 hours of an ice storm and it took two days to get it back. Go figure.

It’s calling for more freezing weather for the next couple of days. I’m hoping my power stays on through this shit.

  • Gold_Gerb

High of 79 today with pure sunshine. Had to kick on the A/C during lunch.
My couch is open to you. no cats though. You understand.

  • squirrelsome

    I feel for you, Bobby.
You can hook up your furnace to that generator. I bought one too for this reason before the winter. Last winter we’ve had the power go out for a couple of days because of the freezing rain building up on the power cables and trees. If you’re on gas, or even oil, all you need is enough power for the starting amps on the furnace.

  • Gold_Gerb

go easy on the genny. some are better than others. so I’ve heard.

  • Billabong

That is a bone chilling cold when you don’t have a way to heat. Propane fireplace backup for heat pump?

  • BobbyLow

    Thanks Squirrel,

My HC System is a typical HVAC Combo used in the south that is all electric and runs off of 120 AMPs all by itself so I would need a $ whole house generator to power it. The generator I bought is big enough to power my refrigerator, a small portable heater or fan, a lamp, TV and DVD Player. When it’s under a full load it burns about 3 Gallons of fuel every 4 hours. Fortunately, I don’t expect to use it very often.

Speaking of which of course it ran out of fuel at 3 AM this morning so I had to go outside and fill it up. 🙁 Fortunately in the 7 years I’ve been here, I’ll only loose power about 3 times a year. I don’t mind it as much in the summer because I would rather be too hot than too cold. In any case, it was just some stuff we have to go through from time to time. 🙂

  • BobbyLow

Bone chilling cold? I couldn’t even find shorty. 🙂

I might consider a Propane Fireplace although I think I would still need electric for any kind of blower. Might be some kind of solution though.

  • BobbyLow

    Thanks GG.

I’ve missed South Florida over the past few days. (I lived there for 10 years) Fortunately for me, the winters here in NC are reasonably short and by the middle of March the Dogwoods will be in bloom and I’ll be mowing my lawn again. 🙂

  • Billabong

If you have an overhead fan and reverse it for the winter, it sucks the heat out of the fireplace and pushes it down. Blowers are model type or add-on option. Another option is an extended (WAG – comes out 12-18 inches) hood that fits in the fireplace and extends out under the mantle (forces the air out further). I bought a propane fireplace after my heat pump failed in the dead of winter and we were forced to live without heat for days.

  • phylum

Although not cold, methinks Scott may need a gene(rator) too what’s headed his way ……

  • DarthTrader

/SI Silver has a confirmed ABC up targeting 17.017 where I’ll be closing my longs if it completes as predicted. Not as confident in an after hours low volume pattern however . . . we’ll see
