BTC At An Inflection Point

The rotation calls are back. Every major closed green today, ETH and INJ led the pack, and BTC dominance is reportedly slipping toward 60%. So the chart crowd has decided money is finally rotating out of Bitcoin.

ETH price chartThe ETF flows say otherwise. October was the worst month on record for U.S. spot ETH ETFs, with about $1.61B redeemed right after three months that pulled in $3.05B.

And the selling didn’t stop at month-end. The latest daily prints show roughly $399M leaving BTC funds and $140M leaving ETH funds. The marginal institutional buyer in this cycle is still redeeming, not rotating.

Some structure before anyone sizes into the story. Every major I track is below the orange 20-day SMA and the blue 50-day SMA after a month of double-digit losses. A green day under both lines is a bounce until proven otherwise.

ETH is the name the rotation thesis needs most, and it’s also where the redemptions are concentrated. Price is near $2,285, up about 1.6% on the week and down roughly 16% on the month. So yes, relative strength. Institutional demand coming back? Not according to the flows.

BTC price chartBTC is near $77k, down about 10% on the month. Gravitas, my trend-following system for BTC and ETH, flipped bearish on November 2nd near $77k, and price has gone roughly nowhere since. It ignores rotation chatter and tracks trend, and trend is still down.

But here’s where things get interesting. Gravitas is sitting at another potential inflection point. BTC has been trying to stabilize around $76k–$78k, right where the Kalman trend is transitioning from bullish to bearish. We could see a few LONG/SHORT reversals before the market establishes its next sustained direction. That’s the price of systematic trend following: occasional whipsaws in exchange for capturing the larger moves.

For perspective, the previous Gravitas LONG campaign ran from August 19 through November 2, capturing a 12.59% gain. Not bad for a market that’s spent the past few months going largely sideways. The question now is whether BTC can regain its footing or whether this latest bearish flip marks the beginning of another leg lower.

By the way, Gravitas is the main engine behind Crypto Alpha for BTC and ETH. Check it out here.

INJ price chartINJ has the least ugly chart in the lineup. It was the top major today, up about 5.7%, and it’s the only one still above the violet 200-day SMA, by roughly 32%. But it sits below its 20-day like everything else, and less weakness is not a bullish case. That’s like feeling good about being chased by a bear because your fat friend just started falling behind.

SOL price chartSOL’s options market is leaning bullish, with a 0.71 put/call ratio in one positioning report, while spot trades well below its trend lines. That’s positioning color, not a signal. Buying calls into a downtrend is a hope trade until price confirms.

So here’s the bar I’d hold the rotation story to: ETF demand and spot buying have to recover together. A bounce while the funds keep redeeming is short covering, mean reversion, or boredom. Calling a rotation costs nothing. Redeeming a share costs money, and that’s what the flow data keeps showing.

What changes my mind: daily flows flatten or turn positive while ETH/BTC strength holds and broadens beyond two or three names. What kills it: outflows keep running while the alt bounce fades. Until one of those happens, rotation is just a theory.

Cheers,

Michael
