Tuesday Morning Briefing

Welcome to our morning briefing. Here we are reviewing short term setups ahead of the NYSE opening bell. If you are a scalper or swing trader then these setups may be of interest to you. As usual keep in mind that these are short term setups although they could be used as early entries for more longer term positions.

As the saying goes – if it ain’t broke – don’t fix it! The 25-hour seems to be holding up and we also have an hourly NLSL right on top of it. So I’ll be long above 1692 and short below with a stop a few ticks away on opposing sides.

However I find the NQ a bit more delectable as it’s being wedged between its two SMAs right now – excellent inflection point for ST trades. This also has consideration in respect to the RTV-S setup on the daily front (see prior post).

The FX front is pretty quite right now – the USD/CHF is approaching its 100-hour again and I expect resistance there. So I”m short with a stop above. Long only after about 0.9410.

Before you run off also check out Scott’s post from overnight – good stuff.

I hope you enjoyed your summer weekend – I ¬†once again spent most of it in the lair implementing a few new improvements and features into Crazy.Ivan (e.g. the messaging cough cough). Frankly, I’m not complaining – I enjoy this doing this stuff and I wouldn’t have it any other way. As the old saying goes: If you love what you do you never work a day in your life.

Pickings are unfortunately a bit slim this morning but on the upside the quality of the setups I found is good. Here’s the 10-year futures contract in an uptrend about to breach its hourly NLBL. I’m thinking continuation trade unless it drops through the 25-hour.

Platinum back at its 25-hour SMA – which it has been observing nicely in recent days. So I’ll be long here with a stop below that rising SMA.

A few more for the subs:

Slow Friday Morning Briefing

Not seeing much of interest on the setup front this morning. It’s summer after all and the weekend is almost upon us – so let’s take care of business and then head for the nearest beach (or lake if you live inland) ;-)

Copper is my favorite setup at the moment – great reversal from the lower BB and it’s now attempting to overcome an hourly NLBL, which in my not so humble opinion should determine the rest of the session. Good setup.

If you caught yesterday’s post then you know the overall outlook remains to be bullish (much to my chagrin as I earn in Dollars and spend in Euros). At the moment however it’s trying to figure out what comes next as there’s a weekly NLBL in the way. The chart above shows us the hourly picture which reveals us a pretty solid 100-hour SMA and a tightly compressed Bollinger. I suggest you keep watching this chart for signs of a break out as what comes next may be big (and fast).
