Good Things To Come!
Good Things To Come!
I have spent all day coding and don’t think a market update here is really necessary. The tape is pushing sideways and there’s not much else to be said at this point. If you’re long then you’re with the trend and there’s no reason to fiddle with it right now.
The one chart of interest this evening is the YM which is most likely going to finish with an inside period. Yeah, I know – we’ve seen plenty of those lately. But as the spoos and the NQ are on the move the Dow may soon follow suit. And at least we do have a potential short entry here as well, although there is a NLSL at 15,419 blocking the way. Not an easy entry by any measure, but it’s there.
Of course I have not been idle on my end. In the past two days I have refactored some of the trending logic in Crazy.Ivan and it’s MUCH better than before – much more resilient and it catches the mini-trends very nicely now. The old logic was rather bloated and a bit clumsy. I looked at it the other day and really hated it and eventually wound up rewriting it from scratch. Sometimes tossing iffy code and starting over is better than trying to fix the old version. To give you an idea – here’s a snapshot of how I visualize it:
In case you wonder – the trending logic determines whether or not hammer and shooting star triggers are being observed. Hammer long setups only trigger in an uptrend and shooting star short setups only trigger during a down trend. Failed hammers and failed shooting stars always trigger by the way – trend or no trend.
I have also greatly improved the messaging – there will be more context about why trades exit before their stop is being hit. In time this will all make sense to you and I’m pretty excited about how things are coming together. Tomorrow I’ll start implementing the logging module, which is already written and tested but needs to be integrated into the strategy now. So a ton of good stuff to look forward to 🙂
I plan to put up a new version of Crazy.Ivan on Monday morning (my morning that is) – I hope it’ll also include the logging piece. But frankly I could use a day off as I’m starting to feel the burn.
Cheers,
