Batten Down The Hatches!
Batten Down The Hatches!
As you probably are already aware – all U.S. stock markets will be closed on Monday and possibly Tuesday. Earlier there was talk about a plan that would have kept electronic trading going on Monday but with half the nation expecting some state of emergency that option was apparently dropped to attend more pressing matters.
[Update Tue 7:00am EDT: Markets will remain closed on Tuesday due the severity of the storm.]Sandy is expected to bring life-threatening storm surge flooding to the mid-Atlantic coast, Monday evening and into Tuesday. If you live on the East Coast and are affected by evacuation orders then I hope you follow them to the tee. This is going to be a big one and personal safety outweighs personal property every time.
Subscribers: It’s quite possible we’ll experience service discontinuations as Sandy ravages the East Coast. As there won’t be any trading I have turned off the Zero, Geronimo, and all alerts. ZeroFX should continue running but be prepared for occasional service outages. I would not recommend trading in this environment anyway as you may find yourself cut off and unable to close out a bad trade. If markets open on Tuesday then I’ll let you all know in advance and services should continue as usual.
Google just launched a new Hurricane Sandy crisis map specifically for New York City. The map features evacuation zone data from NYC Open Data, open shelters, weather information and live webcams. As the team identifies additional information, they’ll be updating this map. Here are some essential links – use them!
